Durward Kennels
(Durward ) -old english (meaning,- door watcher, door warden, door guard).The name was chosen, because of what I believe about the real (properly bred) Rottweiler and GS is, and should be. Rottweilers and GS were bred, (and in these times) should still be bred as a guard dog. The best all a rounder, and when a situation arises (were you ,your loved ones or your property are a target), should be an effective home and personal guardian. In stress should, because the Rottweiler and GS like a lot of other breeds , is being bred for show, (looks only, and health debilitating size), the protection instincts, along with stability, are being faded out to meet a more publicly plausible canine. Rottweilers are now being bred as labs that look like Rottie's. If we bred Hounds for show and looks only, not for there sense of smell and hunting ability, and generations after they could not be used for hunting anymore, would they still be Hounds? This does not mean a Rottweiler or GS should be a mindless law breaking citizen,(and they were never bred that way), but they should be bred with work and conformation , guardian instinct , obedience, and train ability in mind.
We live in Tweed , Ont , Canada, and have been involved with Rottweilers for 20 years, and German shepherds for 10. The breeding program developed here is of only German style blood line, compact, functional, dark pigmentation, temperament and genetic health in mind. Our dogs are C.K.C or A.K.C registered. We live on a 50 acre farm (still in progress, a real labour of love), we moved here in 2007, were we moved from Kinmount ,Ont ,off of a 25 acre farm ,and were known for or Rottweilers, we have sold rottweilers and Shepherds all over North America. Our pedigrees boast some of the best bloodlines in the world, and our goal is to produce the best you can find anywhere.
German shepherd vs Rottweiler?
Obviously I have this asked all the time! The answer is when i'm 80 (if God allows) I would like to have one of each, they complement each other. The rottweiler ,shorter coat, no tail (we will always dock as long its legal), more laid back, and powerful as all get out. The German shepherd superior senses, endurance and stamina , but longer coat and tail (think, brushing every other day).Both dogs are equal in there own way, they are both I truly believe the 2 best all a rounders, which is why I personally have both.
